The Dodge

Is there a way to dodge the desktop dance:
the one percussed by the dry din of doors slamming shut?
Is there a world beyond the timestamp,
   a world beyond the queue
Of pale machines impatient to get where they hate to go?
The answer is YES...with a price.
Through emergency exits, it exists
In a rollicking reverie we hope to wake unto.
Sometimes, we break free,
   temporarily.
The alarm sounds,
But the siren song of freedom sounds loudest.
It is a comfort with which we mustn't get too comfortable.
Too soon it ends,
   and the dance begins again.
But the desire to dodge endures.
Hope endures.
The hope is YES...and it is free.
Emergency exits will one day
Only exits be.
